GROW – SOSOSO (Demo’s Review)

Not many of you know me… but you can call me Demo! I’m here to give you guys some Vocaloid song reviews that will get you into the grooving spirit, wanting more and ultimately find more music for your ears to scream “THANK YOU!” But as of today, we will focus on an album from one of my favorite producers. Here we go!!!

Name: GROW

Producer: SOSOSO

Release Date: 8/31/2011

Vocaloid: Hatsune Miku

Statistics from Vocadb!

Overview:

Sometimes it may be hard to understand the meaning behind why you want to dance in your seat when listening to Miku, but what makes it hard is that you just don’t care. Miku’s voice is a dance marathon waiting to happen. GROW is no different either. It only has 6 songs, making the time you listen short but fun… fun, fun, fun… I love fun, Miku loves fun and hopefully you love fun too. Add Electronic J-pop sautéed with a pinch of dubstep and you got a cauldron pot of dance juice- someone grab the leak. But really, GROW is an energetic piece. This album has got a tempo to rival even the best pop music of today, like an orchestra of electricity. SOSOSO really puts time and effort into his Vocaloids- and music too. Miku sounds perfect; no pronunciation problems. I hope you enjoy this album!!!

Detail Review:

1) Grow Up My Sense

Emotion: (•‿•) – Good!

– This song has a steady beat. It does get repetitive in terms of the chorus, although it is one of those chorus’ where it’s not your favorite, but it’s stuck deep inside your brain and won’t come out, not even for another catchy song. The music in the background is electronic but repetitive until the break. I  just wanna hum along to that catchy tune- if Miku wants a duet…

2) No Change

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

– No Change is my favorite from the album. Mr. Opinion Face feels the same. It’s also the most upbeat and heaviest of the album- which may be why I like it so much. With a nice addition of an electronic solo, this song by far, needs No Change… Wow, that was cheesy! ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌

3) 黒のツバサ

Emotion: (⋂‿⋂) – Love It!

– The Japanese means “Black Wing”. In the beginning, it’s slow with just a few bell and harpsichord tunes but then kicks up the flares, keeping it a little more mellow than the previous songs. The chorus is intense and rightly so, sounding like a Spy movie song.  This song is faster than any other song on the album due to the drum beats- erratic, but professionally placed!

4) Pray for You

Emotion: (•‿•) – Good!

– Miku takes a softer approach at the start, singing along with only a piano. But after that, the transition equates to the power of Grow Up My Sense- even ending the chorus with the song name. I distinctly hear a sweet keytar solo in there. This song has a perfect speed to sing along with Miku.

5) 君がくれた翼

Emotion: (•~•) – Meh!

– Not my favorite, but still a great piece. The name means (Wing of Hope). Miku can be heard harmonizing with herself, taking it slow in this song. Her beautiful voice is enough to put me to sleep in class, drooling all over my paper. I tend to go to sleep a lot when listening to Vocaloid- it relaxes me! I’m telling ya, the chorus sounds like a lullaby… or maybe just slightly faster. It sure doesn’t help with the reviewing process, and that’s why I gave it a “Meh!” due to assault of pillow/marshmallow clouds.

6) SUNRISE -My Love is for You-

Emotion: (•‿•) – Good!

– SUNRISE is like the whole album meshed into one. It has its soft spots, heavy spots, and wicked guitar solo at the end. A fitting end to a very short album… I’m convinced it’s an EP, but with 6 songs, it’s interchangeable.

Quickie Review:

7 out of 10

Emotion: (•‿•) – Good!
